A review of the developments shaping your
procurement decisions.
GP Systems
of Choice (GPSoC)
This scheme will see the NHS funding the provision of GP clinical
systems. You can choose between systems provided by your local service
provider, or by suppliers contracted to offer systems on the GPSoC
Framework.
Recent developments: The
eight GPSoC suppliers were announced in late 2007.
What next? Not
all of the suppliers are offering systems under GPSoC yet –
two will be launching their systems in Q2 2008. All suppliers will
be upgrading their systems so that they are more integrated with NPfIT
goals over the course of 2008.
GP2GP
This software application allows patient
records to be transferred between practices electronically.
Recent developments:The
national roll-out began in July 2007 using clinical systems EMIS LV
5.2 and INPS Vision 3, and 2000 practices were using the system by
November 2007.
What next? More
suppliers will be joining the roll-out as their systems are ready. |
Personal Demographics
Service (PDS)
This electronic database contains NHS patient demographic details,
such as address and date of birth. It does not include any clinical
health record information or other sensitive data items such as ethnicity.
Recent developments:
The system is currently in Phase 1.
What next?
Two more releases are planned for 2008. The first, due in April, will
allow migration of users from the old national systems. The second,
due at year end, will see the NHS take over responsibility for maintaining
GP lists of patients.
Electronic Prescribing Systems (EPS)
This allows prescribers to generate and transmit electronic prescriptions
which are sent to dispensers automatically.
Recent developments:
– Release 1 – well under way.
What next?
Release 2 is now being rolled out in certain PCTs. It will allow prescribers
to add electronic signatures to the prescriptions, making them fully
electronic. The first wave PCTs are Berkshire East, Leicester County
and Rutland, Liverpool, Southwark and Sunderland. |
