| Green economics
Yes, you can save money and protect the planet
at the same time.
Reducing
your carbon footprint is now part and parcel of running a responsible
business, especially in the public sector which is often looked to
as a good example of responsible working practice.
How can it benefit a practice?
There are tangible business benefits
to adopting an environmental policy that incorporates your printing
and photocopying equipment.
A more economical way of working can deliver noticeable cost savings,
and extending this principle to inform your purchasing decisions can
reduce future costs.
Reduce cost
Some printer manufacturers are taking
green thinking seriously and have reduced the number of consumable
parts in a toner cartridge from around 60 to just 5 – the associated
cost savings can be as much as 50% per page printed. |
Where to start?
Recycling is obviously an excellent starting point. You should
also try to reduce the amount of paper you have to recycle in the
first place. If you set printers and copiers automatically to double-sided
printing, you could save paper usage by around 35%.
If you're about to do a long print run, use the proof-and-hold
feature to print the first document so that it can be checked at the
printer before the rest of the run is produced. And why not consider
using a cartridge save recycling programme, such as the
Samsung
STAR programme.
These are just some of the ways in which a busy healthcare practice
can reduce its impact on the environment. Go on, give them a go. |

Our Samsung printer is
working very well. I really like the sleep mode – it goes
to sleep and keeps quiet when it's not being used. That saves
energy too!
